  Huge recruiting upgrades by Freeman and Washington is at least on par with Elston as a coach, IMO. Love that he’ll be back to coaching the DL, rather than the linebackers.

  Time to offer Tony Alford the AHC coach position that Elston held, coupled with RB coach and the run game coordinator title that Lance Taylor held.

   

  IMO, the ideal staff composition would be…

  Head Coach / Linebackers: Marcus Freeman

  Defensive Coordinator / Safeties: Doug Belk

  Recruiting Coordinator / Corners: Mike Mickens

  Special Teams Coordinator / Rovers: Brian Mason

  Defensive Line Coach / Run Game Coordinator: Al Washington

  Special Assistant (Linebackers): Chris O’Leary

  Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks: Tom Rees

  Associate Head Coach / Run Game Coordinator / Running backs: Tony Alford

  TE Coach / Pass Game Coordinator: John McNulty

  Wide Receivers: Chansi Stuckey

  Offensive Line Coach: Harry Hiestand

  Defensive Analyst (Offensive Line): Chris Watt

  Offensive Analyst (Linebackers): James Laurinaitis.

  Director of Recruiting (Admin): Chad Bowden

  Offensive Recruiting Coordinator (Admin): Dre Brown

  Defensive Recruiting Coordinator (Admin): Yet to be hired

  That would be an excellent staff, IMO.

  I am sure it isn’t going to be Alford at RB.  Though we all love him.  I can’t see him leaving Ohio St to come back to ND.  And from what is said there is a lot of interest from other coaches including some with west coast recruiting bases that are interested.  But I don’t personally know which ones.  Just news in the grape vine.

  No he hasn’t offered Belk or anyone the job to my understanding… at least not right now. Freeman is finishing up a big recruiting trip tomorrow.  Maybe over the weekend or early next week.
