Listening to Bryan and Ryan talk about the Keely loss as a real blow to gap-closing, but also that it’s currently a really good class got me chasing down the rabbit hole of comparing Composite rankings across the years (specialists excluded). This is what it resulted in, thought it was worth the share.

There’s a lot of interest here (some positive, some not):
      • The Willingham years.
      • How much the right coach changed Alabama
      • The similar (though clearly very early) climb in recruiting of Freeman with Saban’s early years.
      • The impressiveness of Weis’ recruiting early on (2008 class was after a 3-win season!)
      • How big the gap still is.

Excel file for those who’d like it.
